Festival on the Moor is an independent British magazine about folk music, folk dance and customs, music festivals and the North York Moors. It explains in plain words how a session works, what morris and wassailing are, how to camp at a festival with children and where to walk on the moors.
Every guide is checked against primary sources: the English Folk Dance and Song Society and the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library, the national morris organisations, the North York Moors National Park Authority, museums, festival organisers and consumer bodies. The sources are listed under each article. Prices, timetables and opening times change, so the magazine sends readers to the official source instead of printing them.
About this domain
The domain began as the website of a volunteer-run folk festival in the North York Moors, organised from 2002. Its programme pages are kept in the festival archive. This is how the festival described itself:
Festival on the Moor is a non profit organisation managed by a team of enthusiastic volunteers. The committee comprises members of the community experienced in traditional dance, music, song, education, visual art, drama , local produce and folk crafts.
We support and promote local ‘folk’ and feature many artists from all parts of the UK and worldwide in our festivals and concerts.
Our venues include village halls, marquees, artist's studios, pubs,concert halls, village greens and schools.
We offer a series of events throughout the year starting with our St. Georges Celebration during April and ending in December with our ‘Christmas Wassail’ shows.
The Folk Weekend in May is our major annual event and we also hold workshops and educational activities throughout the year.
