Leisure Travel Boom Shifts Casino Discovery Online

29 September 2026

Leisure travel is booming, outpacing business travel in the post-pandemic recovery. According to the Boston Consulting Group, domestic leisure travel spending reached $792 billion in 2023 and could grow to $1.1 trillion by 2030. While that growth is expected to slow over time, travelers increasingly plan trips with tech tools that are perfect for destination casinos and gaming.

A side effect of the travel boom: more scenes of casinos, shows, and gaming in online discovery. Gambling content is growing as a needle-mover in online travel searches, pushed by AI and tools that mimic social media-based discovery.

This means more than a bigger audience for gambling expos. In aligning a larger share of its circuit to travel, the casino industry has marketing potential for sustainable online growth from expanding, AI-fueled travel trends.

Leisure Travel Driven by Generational Shift

Leisure travel accelerated with a boom in post-pandemic tourism. The shift has remained as people adapted to fewer business meetings and digital work dominance. The numbers are eye-popping: from about $900 billion globally in 2022, international leisure travel could reach $1.7 trillion by 2030, Boston Consulting Group projects. Overall, leisure travel is the key driver—and a trend that is expected to increasingly look toward AI discovery and tools over time, say experts.

"Unlike business travel, leisure has been the big driver of overall increase since 2022, and that looks to continue," explains Jay Lee, a travel industry analyst for Boston Consulting Group. "And younger travelers lean much more heavily into tech channels—social, AI, fintech—for booking and recommendations. That's where the future is."

The link between rising post-pandemic travel and growing traffic to casinos is strengthening. With international leisure travel at a high, and AI search and booking tools gaining traction, casino content is more likely to ride the wave of queries and clicks to its infrastructure.

AI Drives Traffic, Casinos Get Discovery Favor via Leisure Trends

About 57% of non-business travelers, the biggest growth segment in uptake of AI search and discovery, report adding casino destinations and those complexes' entertainment benefits, explains Lee. With travel publishers facing challenges in digital subscriptions, major content platforms are turning to AI chatbots and search to adapt.

Because leisure travel growth is driven by generational shifts and more digital-native travelers, the focus is shifting toward AI-generated content. "These users aren't sold on AI," says Lee, "but they consume it."

More on this is available via NZ online casinos.

Strategically, casinos are increasingly adopting AI planning tools. Destination casinos offer more services than gambling, increasingly serving as venues for shows and social interactions. The content shift follows naturally: "Casinos are becoming destinations, entertainment hubs, and event centers—much more than just gambling," says Lee. "That all drives growth in search visibility and trending pages, which ultimately increases visits to casino and gaming platforms.

Leisure Travel is Packaged Entertainment, AI Planning Meets That

The rise in non-gambling travel to casino towns benefits gambling sites in multiple ways. The connection between travel services and entertainment offerings at casino resorts creates mutual benefits. Packages combining poker incentives with destination attractions have clear tourism-boosting effects that benefit the overall location.

Consequently, online gambling platforms have embraced this trend by incorporating AI chatbots and search tools. These AI-driven assistants answer questions and provide personalized recommendations, improving user experience and increasing casino visit likelihood.

The trend has been especially strong recently, with many travelers "seeking destinations combining resort amenities with serious gambling options," says Lee. Visits to major casino operators like Las Vegas Sands and MGM Resorts grew 18% last year. Since many combine leisure activities, AI discovery tools offer personalized experiences from accommodations to gaming recommendations. "Casinos are uniquely positioned for this," says Lee. "It's a convergence of leisure travel growth and casino development."

Bundling leisure with gambling turns destination towns into multi-channel promotional networks. AI accelerates discovery in this expanded ecosystem, with knock-on effects for SEO and conversion rates. Publishers are adapting too, finding better ways to showcase casino packages beyond affiliate links—the more personalized, the better the engagement.

Gambling guides benefit from the same algorithms boosting travel sites by providing location-rich content that surfaces in searches. "Best-of" ranking content already shows advantages.

"All this points toward easier travel search and more targeted delivery of promotional content where it matters most—at the start of a travel query or planning session," says Lee.
